Looking for Completion

When I am in need of that proverbial push to keep at my writing, I look to my collection of quotes for inspiration and fuel for my imagination.

It brings me comfort to read about artists of the written word who too have struggled, and continue to struggle, to complete their projects.

The draft of my very first novel sits by my desk…printed, the pages neatly numbered, it sits tucked in the box from Staples…416 typed pages, 125,000 words, just hanging around begging to be revised.

It was an accomplishment for me to complete this story, to tell it through from beginning to end, for I have started many other tales without experiencing the thrill of crossing the finish line.  I am a starter, a sprinter who weakens if asked to go the extra mile.

I am invested in this story I have written, and very much want to fight for its completion.  So many fears lurk around the corners of my hesitation, and there is no doubt in my mind that I have a battle a head of me, but truthfully, I know it will be well worth it in the end!

I just need to open that box…

Couple of quotes that I keep close:

Robert Heinlein had two rules for writers:

1/. You must write!

2/. You must finish what you write!

Writing is easy; all you have to do is sit starting at a blank sheet of paper until drops of blood form on your forehead.  Gene Fowler
